This piece captures the enduring presence of the decommissioned St. Charles Bridge, a once-majestic structure spanning the Missouri River with its rolling spine of arches. As a child, I experienced it in motion, but standing beneath it as an adult, I witnessed its quiet decay—weathered, scarred, yet still commanding.
The bridge’s structure, shaped by time and neglect, embodies the tension between engineered precision and natural erosion. Flattened perspective and extreme vanishing points draw the eye toward the horizon, amplifying its dramatic presence.
Through my work, I distill these industrial forms into a rhythmic visual language, balancing structure and collapse, solidity and dissolution, to redefine their expressive potential.
